IPUC 2007

Nasrec, Johannesburg
18th - 20th September 2007
Conference, Workshop and Exhibition

"Towards Improved Energy Efficiency and Reduced Life Cycle Costs of Pumping Systems"

IPUC 2007 is proudly hosted by SAIMechE and TAS, and is the leading pump conference in South Africa focused on the mining, petrochemical, bulk water and waste water industries, addressing issues affecting all pump users today who are committed to improving energy efficiency and reducing the life cycle costs of pumping systems.

In this two day conference, leading experts both international and local, will share their wealth of knowledge and experience on pumping systems, and present papers on tried and tested solutions as well as effective problem-solving techniques using the latest technology.

Conference highlights:

  • Bob Went, who was Chairman of the UK Pump Centre for 12 years and is now a senior group consultant with ITT Flygt in England, pioneered the concept of Life Cycle Costing in the UK water industry and has presented a number of papers at conferences around the world on the subject. He will also discuss the development of the Pump Centre and the benefits of membership.
  • Rick Scutter will outline the work being undertaken in developing and implementing a life cycle cost strategy for both his company, Severn Trent Water, and for the UK water industry in general.
  • Richard Smith, a director of AESSEAL (plc) UK, will detail areas where significant energy conservation has been achieved from improved seal reliability programs and discuss the resultant effect on carbon emissions.
  • Allistair Balutto from RARE Water will discuss how Life Cycle Cost Analysis can be utilised as an effective design and maintenance management tool to reduce maintenance requirements and maximise energy and delivery efficiency of water and waste water pipeline systems.
  • Mike Rabe will show how the ?Watergy? approach developed by ASE helps cities realise significant energy, water and monetary savings through technical and managerial improvements in water supply and wastewater treatment systems.
  • G.R. Carlisle from Belzona will share the experience gained over 48 years from formulating and developing cold applied polymer coating systems for the protection of fluid handling systems.

This conference will provide delegates with powerful insights into currently high profile problem areas and provide specific and usable solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce life cycle costs for the pump user.

Major sponsors have elected to endorse this important initiative, many of whom will provide additional information for delegates in the adjoining exhibition area. Sponsors and endorsements include:

  • The British Pump Manufacturers Association
  • The SA Association for Energy Efficiency
  • Weir Minerals
  • Engen
  • CH Warman
  • Verder Pumps
  • ITT Flygt
  • Autodesk

In addition, this outstanding, well-presented conference will be followed by a one-day workshop.

Improving the Energy Efficiency of Centrifugal Pumping Systems.

Aimed at empowering pump users to conduct their own pump system energy audits and achieve immediate operational savings and improved plant reliability.

The one day workshop is designed to help companies better understand how optimising both existing and new pumping systems will lead to reduced life cycle costs and major reductions in energy usage.
