Afrox cylinder shortage hits gas supply
Gas shortages have hit the country because major gas supplier Afrox has run short of cylinders.
An early winter coupled with very low temperatures have led to an increased demand for gas cylinders used to power gas heaters, among other domestic and industrial uses.
And, it looks like many Gauteng residents may have to endure the cold a bit longer.
'We ordered gas from Afrox last Thursday and we are still waiting'
Afrox, the supplier of 50 percent of liquid petroleum gas - LP gas, which is better known as Handigas - in the country, reported a shortage of cylinders on Tuesday.
Afrox spokesperson Chris Fieldgate said that despite ordering extra cylinders this year the company was experiencing a slight shortage which coincided with the annual shutdown of the Durban Engen Refinery which supplied the company with the LP gas.
It was not really a shortage the company was experiencing
However, Fieldgate said: "We expect the problem to be alleviated pretty quickly. The refinery in Durban will open again in two to three weeks."
