The SANEA AWARDS 2008 winners were announced during a dazzling gala dinner last night. They are:

·          Bethlehem Hydro (Pty) Ltd – Anton-Louis Olivier, MD in the Project Award category

·          Edwin Naidu, Senior Writer of The Sunday Independent in the Journalism Award category

·      Dave Wright, General Manager Corporate Planning at Engen Petroleum Limited in the Education Award category

“In the light of all the recent focus that energy industry had been receiving, it is important to draw attention to the good things happening in the industry – the creative and the inspirational,” Brian Statham, Chairman of SANEA remarked during the event. “Amidst all the negative sentiment it is wonderful to have had an opportunity to pay tribute to the enthusiastic South Africans who are making every effort to ensure we have a vibrant energy future.”

“The SANEA AWARDS will be presented annually and are aimed at recognizing and honouring the achievements of those whose efforts promoted and provided a sustainable energy supply and use for the benefit of all,” said Statham. The awards features six categories, namely: the Energy Award, the Project Award, the Recognition Award, the Service Award, the Journalism Award and the Education Award. This year awards were presented in three of the categories.

Dear SANEA Stakeholders

SANEA AWARDS 2008 – 31 JULY 2008

We have had a most exciting response to our SANEA AWARDS 2008. There have been more than 20 nominations across all six categories. The diversity and richness of the nominations will keep the adjudication panel busy. Importantly there were more nominations from non-SANEA members than from members which shows the growing awareness of SANEA and our activities.

Amidst all the negative sentiment it is wonderful to have an opportunity to pay tribute to the enthusiastic South Africans who are making every effort to ensure we have a vibrant energy future. This is a time to celebrate and to have a great party in the middle of what is proving to be a tough year.

We are in a process of planning the SANEA AWARDS 2008 evening – 31 July 2008 – which promises to be an exciting and memorable event. We will be approaching you with corporate sponsorship opportunities and I urge you to look seriously at these. We are expecting good support from the media especially because of the high-quality nominations for the Journalism Award.
