Awards season approaching
I recently had the honour of being asked to judge the Eskom Energy Efficient Lighting Awards. A record amount of entries was received and I am really looking forward to the awards evening in November. Then we have the SANEA Awards evening that also happened two weeks ago. (See more about the winners of the SANEA Awards evening here.) But this started me thinking - the amount of money, time, energy and effort that goes into rewarding industry and individuals for outstanding work is phenomenal, yet, it seems that it always takes tremendous effort to get people involved to enter. The rewards are amazing both professionally (recognition) and personally (cash reward), so I ask myself, how do we engage the public to participate? I'd love to hear your comments. Please email me on marlene@25degrees.net.

The loan, which was granted in April, didn't receive support from Britain, the United States or the Netherlands. After residents from Limpopo protested that the 4 800 MW Medupi plant posed health and environmental hazards, the bank's investigation panel recommended a proper investigation.

Key research needs for global climate change policy
After the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) in Denmark in 2009, the Energy, Climate and Innovation Programme (ECI) in the Centre for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP) at the Fletcher School, Tufts University, carried out a consultative process with policymakers, scholars and leaders from non-profit organisations regarding the current state of global climate change negotiations. The goal of this research was to identify analytical gaps and topics for scientific inquiry that can be taken up by researchers in order to better serve international climate policy discussions in the future.
