Brian Statham appointed Chair-Elect of the WEC Studies Committee
At its annual meeting held in Reykjavik, Iceland in September 2009 the Executive Assembly of the World Energy Council (WEC) unanimously appointed Brian Statham, Chairman of the South African National Energy Association (SANEA) as Chair-Elect of the WEC Studies Committee and a Member of the Officers' Council.

SA's electricity consumption down by 2.1% in July
South Africans used 2.1 percent less electricity in July 2009 as compared to the same month in 2008, revealed Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) recently. The estimated seasonally adjusted electricity consumption was 5.3 percent lower in the first seven months of 2009 compared with the first seven months of 2008.
Minister of energy attends IAEA conference
Minister of Energy, Dipuo Peters, attended the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Annual General Conference in Vienna, recently, where she delivered a national statement outlining the recent developments and progress made in the South African nuclear sector.
PetroSA urges customers to make other arrangements
PetroSA has urged its customers to make alternative arrangements during the company's planned maintenance shutdown from 22 September to 14 November. The country's national oil company said it would not be able to produce some gases, like propane, carbon dioxide, liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen at its gas-to-liquids refinery and offshore platform operations.
