World Wind Energy Award 2009
On the occasion of the 8th World Wind Energy Conference 2009 on Jeju island, Korea, the Board of the World Wind Energy Association has decided to give the World Wind Energy Award 2009 to the Hon. George Smitherman, Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of Ontario, largest Province of Canada.

Summit on rising fuel costs to be held
Energy Minister, Dipuo Peters, is expected to call a summit on the rising costs of fuel. Spokesperson, Bheki Khumalo explained that the minister will call a summit of all stakeholders to discuss the rising prices of all fuel - not only petrol.

PBMR Localisation Workshop - 30 July
Jaco Kriek, CEO of PBMR, stated at a meeting of the Nuclear Industry Association of South Africa (NIASA) Manufacturer's Sub-Committee that PBMR will make a detailed presentation to the NIASA membership on the manufacturing, construction, operation and maintenance requirements of the PBMR plant. The date for this workshop has now been set for 30 July 2009.
Specialised courts that deal with environmental crimes to be reinstated
Department of Environmental and Water Affairs Minister, Buyelwa Sonjica, said her department would reinstate specialised courts focusing specifically on individuals who trespass South Africa’s environmental laws. These courts were likely to be up and running within eight months.
