On completion of my Civil Engineering degree (B.Sc. B.Eng.) at Stellenbosch University in 1975, I joined Transnet SOC Limited and have been in the Group for my entire professional career now spanning more than 36 years. I also obtained a commercial degree (B.Com Hons - Transport Economics) in 1987.
During my years in Transnet, I have held various positions ranging from pure engineering (initial stages) to that of planning (strategic and business) before branching into management in 1988. As manager, I have held positions of assistant regional manager in the then Spoornet, general manager at the then Autonet and was finally appointed as Chief Executive of Transnet Pipelines (formerly Petronet) in September 1992, a position I have held since.
