There is significant hype around climate change and sustainable development. These elements will play a critical role in the development of the energy mix in South Africa as well as the creation of opportunities for private investment in the monopolistic electricity industry. However, South Africa is facing a variety of development challenges and it could be rightly asked if investment in RE solutions is indeed the best for this developing economy.
| "RE in South Africa & the Outlook for Growth" |
The analysis will cover some of the major challenges facing the industry at present an look at potential energy solutions as well as the structural changes that are needed to drive the overall deregulation of the electricity industry. Some international case studies will also be presented to compare South Africa's development to that of other developing and developed nations.
Lastly a short overview of electricity pricing will be presented to describe the expected price curve and the associated impact on economic development and industrial expansion. It will look in particular at the effect of RE feed in tariffs on the overall electricity tariff.
